Jean Paul Gaultier is known for his dramatic runway shows. The designer often goes for the unexpected when it comes to his fashion and his models. The fall/winter 2014-2015 couture production was no exception: The collection had a Miss Havisham-meets-Volturi-type vibe. The models wore dark, sparkly dresses, hooded blouses, and feathered headpieces paired with blood-red lips and ghostly white skin. But the models themselves might have been the most notable part of the presentation.
Gaultier picked Eurovision Song Contest winner Conchita Wurst to close his show, dressing the Austrian known by her stage name, “Bearded Lady” in a funeral-like bridal gown. “I always say that beauty is difference and Conchita has shown us all that she is unstoppable,” the designer told The Independent after the show. “And she looks great in couture; she is a real couture woman.”
Also on the runway: 56-year-old Catherine Loewe, who opened the show and fell three times before abandoning her heels and walking the rest of the catwalk in her socks. Including an older model on the runway isn’t something new, but it’s something we always love to see. Kudos to Gaultier for keeping his lineup fresh and keeping the rest of us on our stockinged toes.
